hopes to use his rancher heritage to attract tourism
"We want
to take them out and show them what the real west was like”
Hi, My name is Jesse
Magaña, owner of Rancho Milagro of Kansas. I am a farmer
and raise stock in Ellsworth County, Kansas.
Here is a little history of how we got started. In my younger years,
I bought my first horse while still in High School and worked as
a ranch hand on the land around the current Rancho Milagro of
Kansas.
In 1962, I bought my first quarter section of land in the Smokey
Hills. To raise more funds for my new farming operation, I began
a career working for Graves Truck Line in Salina, Kansas, where
I was appointed as a Union Steward. While serving as an advocate
for Hispanic economic and employment opportunities, I was appointed
by the Governor of Kansas to serve on the Council on Manpower Planning
and Services. In 1972, I bought more property for the use of Rancho
Milagro Headquarters. In 1979, I then became a National Treasurer
for SER Jobs for Progress, Inc. Once this was accomplished, I became
the Vice – Chairman, SER Jobs for Progress. Then I acquired
more land to increase the amount of stock I have. I now own 30 head
of horses, a herd of Black Angus cattle, and a few Longhorns. After
purchasing land adjacent to Rancho Milagro in 2002, my land mass
holdings were brought to 1000 acres. I am also a member of the Ellsworth/Kanopolis
Chamber of Commerce, and a charter member of the Center of Rural
Life. Rancho Milagro became a registered agri-tourism business with
the Kansas Department of Commerce and Tourism on November 12, 2004.
On August 26, 2005, Rancho Milagro had incorporated as a for-profit
business.
